WITH bonfire night and a national firefighters strike looming there are 45 young Worcester girls better equipped than most for any emergencies that may come their way.
Members of the 6th Worcester St Barnabas Brownies and Guides have just completed a five-week fire safety course at the city's fire station.
The girls all aged between seven and 14 learnt a host of vital skills including how to help fire victims.
"They learnt how to deal with unconscious pat-ients, burns, many other first aid methods, and how to tackle a variety of fires," said Pam Instan, the guider in charge of the unit.
"I believe it is something they really need to know and they found it very interesting. They have gained a lot of valuable knowledge."
Mrs Instan also thanked all the firefighters who helped during the course.
"We are very grateful for their help. They made us feel very welcome."
