JEWELLERY belonging to film star Joan Collins was used to launch a charity appeal by the National Heart Research Fund at Perdiswell Leisure Centre.
WI Federation members welcomed Helen Grimditch, fundraising manager of the National Heart Research fund, to talk about Treasure Chest, a scheme to raise money by auctioning donated gems.
The appeal has already raised £120,000, most of which was through WI Federations.
"By donating your old, unwanted or broken pieces of jewellery to Heart Research's 'Treasure Chest Appeal' you can help save lives," said Esther Rantzen, one of the celebrities who helped launch the appeal.
"Your jewellery when sold at auction on behalf of the National Heart Research Fund can generate a tremendous amount of income for the charity.
"This then funds vital research into the prevention, treatment and cure of heart disease, still the UK's number one killer."
At Ms Grimditch's talk on Tuesday, October 22, she showed off a black beaded necklace belonging to Joan Collins and a necklace donated by actress Pauline Quirke.
Anyone who wants to take part in the appeal can contact Ms Grimditch on 0113 234 7474.
