FORTHAMPTON & District Royal British Legion's annual general meeting was held on October 14 in Forthampton Clubroom. There were 12 members in attendance and eight apologies. The chairman K I B Yeaman welcomed the members who had braved the very wet and windy night. F Remmer branch president said the exortation and epitaph. The minutes of last year's AGM were read out. There were no matter arising. President's report: Since the last AGM members of the branch, Women's section and supporters went house to house selling poppies, the local organiser Betty Greenwood was pleased with the result. During the past year the branch has been represented at our own Remembrance Service at Chaceley and other services, re-dedication of Forthampton War Memorial, Tirley, Chaceley, Bushley, Festival of Remembrance, Cheltenham Town Hall, National Conference, Bridlington, County Conference, Fairford, Group meeting Tewkesbury, Newent, Staunton, Ashchurch and Forthampton. At our own branch meetings we had talks by J Horthonthwaite, national vice-chairman, Col T Merritt OBE (county field officer) and branch chairman K I B Yeaman. Chairman's report: K Yeaman thanked all the past committee members for the hard work they had done for the branch and the Royal British Legion especially for the coffee morning and supper dance.
Election of officers: Patron J S Yorke, president F Remmer, vice-presidents Lt Col A Sharp, N J Pittman, chairman K I B Yeaman, vice-chairman to be appointed, treasurer G Moss, secretary J J Russell, chaplains Rev C Moss and Rev D Bowers. Poppy organiser Miss B Greenwood.
Report of service committee - during the past year visits have been made to sick members at their homes but we have not had request for assistance. One enquiry for convalescence next year. On behalf of Tewkesbury branch one application for a pension, this already had been applied for yeas ago and refused and it was refused again. As case worker F Remmer has had to get a new ID card for visiting applicants. Fundraising: Coffee morning, supper dance and enquiring into running a quiz night.
Subscriptions: At the national conference it was very well debated that the affiliation fee be raised to £10 this was carried. Branch subscriptions were raised from £7.50 to £10. Christmas gifts to be provided to senior members and widows. The chairman closed the meeting a 9.10pm. Subscriptions were then collected. Refreshments were then enjoyed.
