WINNERS in the August lottery draw of Corse & Staunton Playing Fields 200 Club were 1 I Thomas, 2 J Bowell, 3 H Dudfield, 4 G Bruce. The Twice Lucky accumulator remains intact and now stands at £440.
Another new piece of play equipment for the children's play area, a rocking horse, has been installed. A dome climbing frame is the item now required and although they are well on the way with funds, donations from any organisation or individual would be most gratefully received. Charlie Hulls, the treasurer, will be pleased to hear from you.
An exciting new project has just been launched at Staunton & Corse CE School, it is the EC sponsored Comenius School Linking Project, which began at the school assembly on October 16 when Mrs Rosie Miller, headteacher, welcomed two teachers from Portugal, two teachers from Malta, two from Norway and one from County Durham. They visited the school to start the three year project and were staying a few days to get to know each other.
Each teacher in turn told the staff and pupils something about themselves, their school and their country and pointed out on the large maps of Europe and the world exactly where they were from.
The project aims to promote trans-national co-operation between partner schools and exchange experiences and explore different aspects of European culture and social diversity to motivate and increase pupils' capacity to communicate and therefore learn foreign languages etc.
The activities are based on an environmental theme and the project will be entitled Mother Nature's Workshop and will last for three years. Activities will be planned in phases and will involved the sharing of the creative arts, the local environment surrounding each school as well as intrinsic traditions.
Schools will engage in a maximum of two activities per term using natural and re-cycled materials and pupils work will be shared and evaluated through a common website.
At the end of the initial year participants from each school will meet to evaluate the projects' progress and formulate ideas for the next year of the project.
Staunton & Corse School had undergone an Ofsted Inspection in July and the inspection report was full of praise for the school.
The report said: "The school provides a very good education for its pupils and they do well.
"Standards are well above average in English, mathematics and science because of the very good teaching.
"The pupils have very positive attitudes to school and their behaviour is exemplary. The school leadership and management of the school are very good. The school provides good value for money."
