THE West returned to winning ways on Saturday in this Worcester League Division One fixture.
GOODREST SPORTS 1, WEST MALVERN 2
Forced to make three changes they got off to a reasonable start and were in front after 25 minutes. After good build up play the ball was played into the centre, was only partially cleared and Ken McEwan drove the ball home from 15 yards. Although Goodrest Sports came back strongly the West back four held firm.
The second half was a ding dong affair and Julian Waldron replaced the tiring McEwan in midfield. With 20 minutes to go Alan Green came on to replace Graeme Maclennan to play up front. From a counter attack and good work by Will Hardy the ball broke for Green to score.
The West fell into a comfort zone with a two goal cushion and paid the price with a ball being played into the box, indecision in the back four allowed Goodrest in to score.
Although Goodrest pressed heavily the back four played well with Duncan McKerracher having a strong game at centre half and Gary Portman being superb as sweeper.
Tomorrow (Saturday) West travel to play Badsey Rangers Reserves in the WFA Minor Cup. Players meet at 12.15pm Bluebell, Guarlford Road or 12.45pm at Pershore College.
West Malvern are sponsored by Amey.
