"WHAT future for town centre?" you ask (Malvern Gazette, October 18) and well enough you may ask, but isn't your query a little late, would it not have been more apt if asked before the supermarkets gave Malvern a resounding knock out blow, just as they are doing in Worcester.
These heartless profit orientated giants have, or should have, no place in a once beautiful town like ours, however they are here, so what to do with Church Street?
Why not terrace Church Street and provide some eye-catching features there, sitting out areas etc, remove Sir Edward to a level half way up Church Street and replace him with that splendid war memorial from the Library grounds, that is to say concentrate our statues in the middle of town, providing a visual attraction to passing traffic and the urge to stop and have a look around.
I am in no way conversant with rates for business premises in Malvern but have often heard it said "rates are far too high", councillors please note!
It is fortunate for us that we have the Hills, the Priory, one of the most beautiful parks in the country.
Without them we would be in a very sorry state.
