IF I may add my threepennyworth to the debate regarding the road realignment at Powick.
It was plainly obvious from the start that the road layout, especially northbound, was a clear invitation for every boy racer or company rep in their Ford Mondeo to roar away from the lights and cut up sensible motorists as the road narrows, in their selfish desire to advance by one car's length at any cost.
I would, however, question the wisdom and cost of the cycle lanes on this stretch of road. Basing my view purely on personal observations as a daily user of the road, would it not have been more prudent, cheaper and safer to have physically separated cyclists from the motor traffic by using the footpath as a cycle path?
I cannot help but think that apart from peak usage of the footpaths at school times, the existence of the kerb would provide a far better physical barrier from traffic than the current distance separation.
