SPEEDING drivers are being targeted on roads in Worc-estershire and Herefordshire in an effort to reduce the number of children killed each year.
West Mercia Constabulary last week launched a Too Fast - Slow Down message as part of an ongoing effort to help reduce child casualty rates throughout the UK by 50 per cent by the year 2010.
The force says more than eight double decker bus loads of children aged five to 16 are killed or injured on the roads in the West Mercia area each year. Research shows that if the average speed of traffic was reduced by just one mile per hour, casualties would be cut by five per cent.
Roads being targeted in the campaign include the A456, A448 and A44 in Worcester-shire and the A49 and A44 in Herefordshire.
Officers will use high profile patrols, education and enforcement to get the message across.
