THE Malvern & District Motor Cycle & Light Car Club held their annual charity skittles competitions at the Beacon Club Room in Link Way.
Once again, they were a great success both in the support for the competitions and in raising a significant amount of money for Cancer Research UK.
This year 37 teams entered the men's competition competing for the Beacon Charity Trophy and 44 ladies teams competed for the Margaret Fildes Memorial Trophy. The finals and presentations of the two competitions were held on separate evenings with the presentation of £1,778.10 to Cancer Research UK being made on ladies' night.
In the first semi-final of the men's competition Powick Nomads beat last year's champions Hotshots. The other semi-final was very close with BGCC Stars just beating Colwall Rockets. The final was an exciting match with Terry Barker's 14 spare sealing the 2002 championship for BGCC Stars. The champions, BGCC Stars, were Kevin Monk, Charlie Halford, Ron Sparrey, Geoff Sparrey, Terry Barker and Doug Walters. Runners up, Powick Nomads, were John Phillips, Tom Green, Keith Knight, Allan Tandy, John Ratcliffe and Paul Trussler. Highest scorer of the competition was Phil Saunders of Dodgers A with 52 pins.
In the ladies first semi-final Sugar & Spice beat Spice of Life. In the other semi-final Nicely Bunched beat The Scramblers. The final was very exciting with the championship all resting on the last leg and it was Sugar & Spice who were the eventual winners by only two pins.
The champions, Sugar & Spice, were Lynn Mitchell, Jackie Bannister, Jill Burston, Julie Daly, Karen Bannister and Lysa Ball. The runners up Nicely Bunched were Sue Amphlett, Sandra Gibbens, Pauline Hughes, Ann Rowley, Tracy White and Maureen Puffett. Highest scorer of the competition was Sue Amphlett of Nicely Bunched with 48 pins.
Malvern skittlers and their friends raise a great deal of money for various charities. The Malvern & District Motor Cycle & Light Car Club is grateful for the support given to these competitions and hopes to continue raising money for Cancer Research.
