IN the appalling weather last Sunday, Droitwich RFC hosted two squads from the Youth side of Malvern Angels WRFC for a couple of friendly Tag Matches.
The teams were evenly matched with end-to-end play throughout each game, however Droitwich just managed to gain the edge for two narrow wins.
The girls thoroughly enjoyed the trip away, and it made a huge difference with it being such a short journey, as in the past the girls have been travelling to places like Vectis on the Isle of Wight and Guildford. There was also a greater turnout of supporters which did the girls' confidence the world of good.
One of the youth coaches, Penny Smallwood, said: "This was another opportunity to improve their ball handling and passing skills. They worked very well within their teams, gaining further game practice."
The chairman of the Angels, Barry Kirby was very pleased with the way things are going this season and said: "It is certainly putting us in good stead for next year when we start entering the leagues and cup, it is a learning experience for everybody involved from the coaches to the players.
"The youth side is proving to be a great success and it will just be a matter of time before these great young players become old enough to start bolstering the senior side to create a truly integrated club."
If you are interested in giving rugby a try, training for the youth takes place on Sundays at 10 till noon at Malvern RFC, Spring Lane. Go along and give it a go, or phone Penny Smallwood for further details on 01905 350352.
