ASA Charlton is targeting a return to full fitness and the Worcester City team after being given the all clear on a troublesome groin injury.

The 24-year-old has missed the last eight matches with an abductor muscle problem but a scan has revealed no major damage and the left footer is stepping up training sessions.

It has been a difficult time for the former Stourport Swifts man who impressed early on but then saw his hopes of establishing himself dashed by a groin strain.

Charlton last pulled on a City shirt during their battling 0-0 draw at Crawley Town and in the weeks that followed has been forced to sit and suffer on the sidelines.

What made it worse for him was that his injury coincided with a mini injury crisis that struck the club.

In the same game that Charlton tweaked his groin, City lost Mark Shail inside a minute and then in the next match David Foy was injured against Tamworth.

"It's been awful to be honest because I'm not the best of watchers in the world and then on top of that coming to a new club I've not felt part of it in some ways," he said.

"I'm only there to play and it was especially hard because there was injuries and suspensions and I couldn't play.

"However it's a great relief to have had the scan and found it's not that badly damaged because it has been dragging on and I was getting a bit concerned.

"I wanted to know one way or the other so at least I could get on with it. They offered me a chance of an injection but it feels okay.

"Now I just want to get some games under my belt and get back up to fitness and hopefully get back in the first team as soon as possible."
