DIRECTOR of Cricket Tom Moody was delighted with the way Worcestershire boosted their Frizzell County Championship Div-ision Two promotion hopes with a record-breaking innings and 308-runs win over Durham at New Road.
It was the County's biggest innings victory margin, beating the innings and 233-runs triumph they achieved over Warwickshire at Edgbaston in 1909.
Moody emphasised how crucial the success was by saying: "We have still got so much of the season to go, but you can't get left behind."
Injury-ravaged Durham resumed their second innings yesterday a massive 473 runs behind on 50-0.
They were eventually dismissed for 215 with their only real defiance coming from Danny Law who hit an undefeated 72 which included 11 fours.
It was all in vain, however, as skipper Graeme Hick had sealed Durham's dismal fate on Thursday when he made 315 not out, the highest tally by a Worcestershire batsman at New Road.
Moody said: "It was a good all-round performance. We bowled well on the first day which set the game up. It was a good surface which a lot of our batsman showed.
"Graeme was obviously the exceptional one in that group and we have polished off the game well. At this stage of the season you need to put away teams convincingly and particularly Durham.
"They are struggling for confidence and they have got a lot of injuries. They are teams that you should beat in that situation.
"At full strength with their overseas player fit Durham are very tough opponents, but they have got a lot of inexperienced players in their side at the moment.
"We have got a near fully fit side and you expect to win games like this."
As well as Hick, Anurag Singh, Ben Smith and Andy Bichel also shone with the bat, while Kabir Ali ended up with eight wickets in the match to lift his impressive haul of first-class scalps so far this season to 41.
Bichel also grabbed seven wickets in the game which helped Worcestershire secure their third Championship triumph of the campaign.
