MEMBERS of Malvern Angling Club will be joining thousands of other anglers on Sunday (June 16) for the start of the coarse fishing season on rivers.
The club starts its season with the Ashwin Cup fished on the club's stretch of the River Severn at Hanley Castle, draw 7.15am. Hopes are very high that the water will produce some decent weights as recent Environment Agency scans show plenty of fish.
However, the weather could play a big part in how much is caught if recent heavy rain puts the river up and coloured weights could be affected.
The club has done a lot of work bank clearing on the River Severn, because of foot and mouth restrictions the water was not fished last season and was very overgrown. Bank clearing has also been in full swing on the club's other waters on the River Avon at Birlingham and the club's pool at Mathon.
The Spring League series fished on the club pool was won by Paul Bick with 19 points, second place went to Alan Lancett with 15 points and third place to Mike Spragg with 14 points.
Forthcoming contests include the popular Wednesday Evening Scrambles series fished on the River Severn at Hanley Castle starting on June 19, draw 6.30pm.
These contests are fished every Wednesday evening on a points basis with the best four weights counting out of six, so anglers don't need to fish every match to win.
