BROMSGROVE Rovers can close the gap on leaders Stourbridge to just one point if they beat struggling Oldbury United tonight (7.45).

But joint manager Gary Hackett is aware Oldbury are just as eager for the points as Rovers.

"They need the points as desperately as we do but for different reasons because they are battling relegation," he said.

The Victoria Ground club, however, have showed no signs of nerves as they reached the critical stage of the season and thumped six past Pelsall Villa at the weekend -- a result which puts them four points behind the Glassboys having played the same number of games.

Les Palmer and Sam Bowen each bagged a brace, which was pleasing for Hackett after the departure of Marvin Blake to Moor Green.

"We lost Marvin, who was a different sort of player, and we've had to adjust our play slightly but Les and Sam both did well," he said.

"We were 1-0 up at the break and though we were comfortable there was always the risk of a breakaway goal, but once we got the second we played some magnificent football."

Hackett says it is all about pressure football but believes his side can cope with it.

"As I've said all along, if we keep our side of it then whatever will be, will be. We just have to keep applying the pressure and we've only lost twice in 20 games and have clawed our way back into it."

Steve Taylor and Morgan Brookes, who both missed the Pelsall match, are doubtful tonight but Steve Foster and Mark Clifton standby to continue.

"They have both done very well and are one of the reasons why we have a big squad," he said.

After pulling a bumper 1,000 plus gate for the Bank Holiday Monday clash against Stourbridge, Hackett is hoping for another big crowd to support their title claims.

"Even though the result was disappointing against Stourbridge it was a good game and hopefully any neutrals there would be tempted to come back."
