BROMSGROVE Rovers slipped to a 3-0 defeat at home to Solihull Borough in the Dr Martens Western Division and it could have been worse but for some poor finishing and some fine saves from debutant keeper Clint Davies.
Former Rovers player Chris Smith played a major part in Borough's success, scoring a goal in each half.
He opened the scoring on 25 minutes, firing home from six yards, and then doubled Borough's advantage on the hour when he headed home on the line.
Rovers's hopes were dented as Steve Ulfig and Quentin Townsend picked up injuries and the home side's misery was compounded when Adam Lovelock fired in a 20-yard volley.
Rovers: Davies 6, Frost S 6, Ulfig 6 (sub Rogers J 45, 5), Townsend 6, Cameron 6, Turpin 7, Benbow 6, Biddle 5 (sub Broadhurst 73), Gennard 6 (sub Beard J 45, 6), Jameson 6, Pountney 6.
