THE new fire engine which has been acquired by Redditch Fire Brigade was officially handed over by Ald WR Amphlett, Chairman of Worcestershire City and County Fire Brigade Committee, at a ceremony at Redditch Fire Station on Friday last.
It is the first appliance to be acquired by the Redditch Brigade since 1939.
The engine had its first call on Tuesday, when about 500 yards of hedge and undergrowth at Birmingham Road, Redditch, which was being burned, got out of control.
It was extinguished by twin hose reels using only a small quantity of the water in the tank.
