Keele University 2,

Pershore 5

ANOTHER determined display in the DTZ League saw Pershore put a little distance between them and the chasing pack at the top of the table.

Pershore started slowly after a difficult journey which delayed the start by 35 minutes.

They could have scored early on when a despairing lunge from Sweatman just failed to reach Crowley's pass, but they went behind to a deflected goal after the cross ball from the University wing had been left by both Rushin and Hawkes to give their bottom of the table hosts the lead for the first time this season.

Pershore battled back with two individual goals from Whiting and half-time was reached with the visitors in the ascendancy.

They were again stung into action at the start of the second half when they conceded an unnecessary goal which levelled the scores and a ten-minute burst produced another goal for Whiting, one for Matt Hughes and a brilliant finish from Joyce that saw them end the game well on top.

The next league game is at home to fellow relegated side, Ramagaria, on Saturday when the hosts will be looking to maintain their summit spot.

Kingswinford III 6,

Pershore III 0

WHAT should have been less than an hour's drive for several members of the Pershore team turned into one of more than three hours last Saturday.

By the time the last car arrived after problems on the motorway, the home side had scored four times and soon added a fifth as the late arrivals dragged themselves on to the pitch.

It was of great credit to the away team that they had not already crumpled to an excellent Kingswinford side and that they proceeded to put a lot of pressure on the home defence.

However, in-form striker, Mike Andrews, was unable to get the better of his man marker with the result that Pershore failed to get any meaningful attempts on goal except for a short period in which Stewart Speake, popping up on the right wing had several chances only to hit the goalkeeper on each occasion.

Kingswinford always posed a threat and scored a somewhat fortunate final goal direct from a short corner to send Pershore home a tired and frustrated side.
