THE yearly all-out effort to raise as much money as possible for a Redditch and Bromsgrove charity in the run-up to Christmas kicks off this week.

The Tree of Light is an appeal which has been running for a number of years now raising much-needed cash for the Primrose Hospice in Bromsgrove.

The centre offers palliative care to patients with cancer and other illnesses mainly from the Redditch and Bromsgrove area.

Each year the Tree of Light appeal offers the public a chance to have the name of a loved one they have lost inscribed at the bottom of a Christmas Tree and in a Book of Commemoration for a donation.

The tree is always placed in Walford Walk in the Kingfisher Centre and the book in St Stephen's Church.

The charity has already been busy fund-raising with a recent swimathon and Proms night and will be holding a sponsored fire-walking event next month.

Redditch Mayor Steve Wheeler will switch the tree lights on at 7.15pm on Thursday November 14 and the Primrose Choir will also perform.
