MARY Fairbairn, president, welcomed almost a full house of our 44 members to the October meeting.

An especially warm welcome was extended to Greta Mitchell from WFW, who presided over the AGM. Sheila Morris gave an efficient treasurer's report. Lyn Jones gave a comprehensive committee report reminding members of a varied and interesting year's programme.

Mary Fairbairn gave her president's report, generously thanking everyone, committee and members, for their support and reminding us that although some members had a difficult year, they had regularly remarked how they had been helped and comforted by the support of fellow members. Mary made particular reference to the committee role of Maggie Mason, who is having a break after ten years of service and to the support given to her by Lyn Jones as secretary. By way of introduction to her part in the evening, Greta Mitchell told us about the refurbishment of WI House in Worcester. Security has been stepped up to include closed circuit television and most importantly, access has been improved for disabled members and visitors. She urged members to go and visit the house.

Greta also asked people to support the courses at Denham College. Members who had visited agreed it was a wonderful experience, socially and educationally. The institute bursary for this year was awarded to Meriel Scurrell.

Greta introduced ten new committee members and took nominations for president from members. Mary Fairbairn, a very popular choice, was nominated and duly appointed.

Competition winners for an arrangement of Autumn berries were Ellen Crawford first, with Hilda Cleaver and Sheila Morris second and third respectively.

The next meeting will be on Wednesday, November 12, at 7.30pm - we're holding a beetle drive. Please do come along and join us for a fun evening!
