A WEST Midlands Euro MP has become the first British MP to land a key role in the European Parliament as the ''champion of small business''.
Philip Bushill-Matthews has been appointed vice-chairman of the SME (Small and Medium-sized Enterprises) Circle.
Speaking from Brussels straight after the announcement Mr Bushill-Matthews said the appointment was a huge honour.
"This is a particular honour, as I am the first MEP from the UK to be appointed to this important position." "The SME Circle straddles all the committees in the European Parliament and aims to ensure that the voice of small businesses is heard more loudly whenever and wherever legislation is being considered.
"I became an MEP in order to fight against unnecessary red tape. I am delighted to have the opportunity now to lead this crusade."
