AN Evesham schoolboy turned have-a-go hero when a man snatched his mobile phone and cycled off.
The 14-year-old tried desperately to grab thief Paul Riley and shouted at him to let go the phone, magistrates at Worcester were told on Tuesday, December 10.
Riley, aged 27, of St Philips Drive, Evesham, pleaded guilty to theft and assault on November 27 and was bailed until January 10 for a pre-sentence report.
Julie Rosamond, prosecuting, said Riley snatched the phone from the boy and then swung round and punched the boy in the chest as he tried to grab him.
"Riley managed to ride off and there was a further assault when he lashed out with his foot and hit him on the shin," she said.
Barry Newton, for Riley, said he denied kicking the boy. He explained: "There are drug issues in this young man's life and there have also been in the past I think."
