ENGLAND'S cricketers may be getting roundly thrashed by Australia this winter -- but a group of Worcester players are hoping to take a bit of revenge.

Members of Old Vigornians Cricket Club who have travelled 'Down Under' to watch the final two Test matches of the Ashes series, are to play a 40-over match against Mordialloc, a club side from Melbourne, on Sunday.

The winners will receive their own version of the Ashes, with the tourists planning to burn a set of bails and put the remains in an urn!

The OVs team, comprised of old boys from the King's School, is captained by Phil Mackie and will be bolstered by four former pupils who now live in Australia -- John Wadley, Paul Statham, Richard Bayliss and Eddie George. Former Worcester Rugby Club captain George Blakeway is also in the side.

It's the first time they've played overseas since a tour of Malta in 1976, and team member Phil O'Neill said: "Knowing the Australians, they are going to take the game quite seriously, and I am not sure whether we will have the depth in batting.

"But we are coming from all over the place to congregate in Melbourne, and it will be a great experience to get a game 'down under'."

The OVs plan to take some autographed items to the game to hold a cricket auction, with proceeds going to the family of former King's student Neil Bowler, who was killed in the Bali bomb attack.

They have more confidence in their own ability than they do in the England team -- the match is due to played on the fourth scheduled day of the Test!
