BROMSGROVE Rovers joint manager Gary Hackett believes his centre backs should be scoring more goals.

Mark Clifton popped up with his second goal of the season to win Rovers clash with Racing Club Warwick and Hackett would like to see a few more.

Clifton and Co have another opportunity on Boxing Day when the Dr Martens Western Division leaders take on Rugby United at the Victoria Ground (12 noon).

"With the amount of free kicks and set pieces they get up for I think the defenders should be chipping in with a few more," said Hackett.

Parfait Medou-Otye is likely to be unavailable and Rovers will need to be on their guard, warns Hackett. "Rugby are a much improved team and their results have improved of late," he said.

Hackett was pleased to see his side return to winning ways against Racing Club Warwick but was disappointed with the visitors' tactics.

"We deserved to win but they were very negative even when they went behind which was disappointing to see," he said.

n No sooner does Evesham United manager Phil Mullen have one player back from suspension then he loses another.

Steve Lutz returns for the Robins' Boxing Day trip to Cinderford Town (11.30am) but Shaun Pratt is ruled out.

Matt Gardiner (ankle) is still out while Paul West (hamstring) is unlikely to feature for in-form United who have beaten leaders Bromsgrove and third-placed Weston in the last two weeks.

Mullen remains optimistic about his team's chances for the rest of the year.

"If we win our games in hand we would be up to around fifth and then you look like you are in contention," he said.

"I always believed we wouldn't be far away and even if we have to come from behind it's been done before like Tiverton who were in a similar position to ourselves with games in hand due to their involvement in cup competitions.

"Whatever happens we are not giving up the ghost."
