A 12-YEAR-OLD Rubery gymnast continues to go from strength to strength after being selected for the West Midlands regional squad for the second year running.
Abigail Walker, of Segbourne Road, has been called up to the 2003 squad following impressive performances of late.
Most recently, on Saturday, December 14, Abigail finished second at the West Midlands county championships in Birmingham despite being the youngest competitor.
Competing at the highest level possible for her age group, the Federation of International Gymnasts level, Abigail fought off eight other gymnasts to secure a silver medal.
Her mother, Jacqueline, said: "She has done really well and has surprised herself."
Abigail was also the youngest gymnast at the National Challenge Cup in Rushmoor, Aldershot, in November.
At that event, the Waseley Hills High School pupil narrowly missed out on a bronze medal by 0.075cm when she came fourth on the beam.
Elsewhere, she impressed on the bars, beam, floor and vault to finish 17th out of 53.
