MALVERN Town cruised to their sixth successive Express and Star West Midlands Premier Division win with this convincing victory at Langland Stadium on Saturday.

MALVERN TOWN 6, SMETHWICK ST 0

The result was never really in doubt once Dean Roberts had given Town a 12th minute lead.

Pete Roberts set up his skipper with a long ball out of defence which Roberts latched on to before shooting past a helpless visiting goalkeeper.

Town's second goal arrived in the 25th minute and came courtesy of a fierce 35 yard drive from John Walton.

After this Town took their foot off the gas for the remainder of the half and Smethwick might well have got themselves back into the game, but were denied by two fine saves from Malvern keeper Melvyn Watson and a brilliant goal line clearance by Craig Williams.

During the half time break, Town boss Neil Hunt issued a wake up call and Town responded when Rick Halion set up Billy Davis in the 53rd minute and Davis finished emphatically to give his side the comfort of a three goal cushion.

Davis got his name on the scoresheet again in the 66th minute, when Des Cox was this time the provider, setting up Davis who converted a simple chance from close range.

Youngster Joe Leighton, deputising for the injured Steve Walker was then denied by an excellent save from the Smethwick keeper as was Walton with another net busting attempt.

The fifth goal duly arrived in the 70th minute when Halion rose unchallenged to head home from the edge of the six yard box.

Town had still not finished and just five minutes later, Lee Goodman played the ball into the path of Cox, who converted from close range to register Town's fourth win of the season by a six goal margin.

Tomorrow (Saturday) Malvern Town are away at Tipton Town (2.45) and Town Reserves are due to entertain Blackheath Town at Langland Stadium (2.45).
