A VIDEO showing a man being kicked in the head as he lay on the road outside a Kidderminster nightclub was shown to a judge at Worcester Crown Court.

The man "putting the boot in" was later identified as 23-year-old steel erector Mario Maffei, said Michael Conry, prosecuting.

Maffei, of George Street, Kidderminster, who was wearing distinctive clothing, was jailed for four months after admitting affray, on Monday, December 23.

The courtwas told a large group of young men took part in a disturbance in Dixon Street at 2am on Saturday, April 20.

Several men had been charged since the incident, said Mr Conry. One man who hit another with a bottle had been jailed for a year.

Maffei's victim had never been identified and had never made a complaint, said Malcolm Parkes, defending.

Maffei's group had been on the receiving end of the violence and his friend who had been hit with a bottle.

Maffei was jailed in 1997 for wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm but had made efforts to put his past behind him, said Mr Parkes.

He had been spotted delivering a single kick and had not tried to use the victim's head like a football.

Judge John Cavell said that late-night street violence was all too common by people who had drunk too much. Maffei had taken a wild kick at someone lying in the road and the courts would not tolerate such violence.
