ON Saturday, December 7 a very enjoyable evening was held in Upleadon Village Hall. The event was organised by the village hall committee for hall funds. The evening was extremely well supported. There was a very festive atmosphere with a beautifully decorated hall. The Christmas meal consisted of lots of choices and various courses with wine and soft drinks. It concluded with coffee and mince pies. Mr Ross Woolfrey, chairman of the hall committee, welcomed everyone and acted as master of ceremonies for the evening. He also thanked the ladies who had prepared and served such a superb dinner. Grace was said by Mr John Slack. A raffle was organised by Mrs Julie Bruton. There were many happy prize winners.

The draw for the 100 Club took place with the first prize going to Mr Francis Hamer and the second to Mr Gerald Draper. As well as being a social evening at the start of the Christmas season it was an excellent financial success with around £550 being raised for hall funds.

A meeting of Upleadon Parish Council was held in Upleadon Village Hall on Thursday, December 12. The chairman was Coun Eddie Wood. Apologies were received from councillors Anne Bassett and David Leighton. The clerk, Mrs Dorothy Parker was in attendance. No members of the public were present. The precept for 2003/2004 was discussed and set at £1,200. The state of the roads in the parish is causing concern particularly with the number of potholes. These have been made worse in recent months with the inclement weather. The barrier at Leachford Bridge will stay in place until the next financial year when Gloucestershire Highways will be able to replace it with a suitable rail. On Remembrance Sunday a wreath was laid for the first time at Upleadon War memorial by Coun June Mayo on behalf of Upleadon Parish Council. It has been decided to continue to purchase and lay a council wreath each year. The next meeting of the parish council will be held on Thursday, March 13 at 7.30pm.

On Sunday, December 29 Upleadon hosts the nine parish service.
