I WOULD like to express my gratitude to my local district councillor Don Pearce for his help on my behalf in intervening with Malvern Hills District Council over the demolition of a brick gate pier at my home in Manby Road.

The demolition of the gate pier was necessary to drive a car through the gateway safely.

Because of a complaint to Malvern Hills District Council about the demolition of the gate pier at my property, these past few months have had a very detrimental effect on my health.

I remain one of six other properties in this vicinity who have also demolished their stone gate piers.

Now I receive a letter from the district council saying the file has been closed because the council's solicitors' advice has indicated that case law would not support the council were it to pursue the matter.

I would like to know how and when the council decide to make an area into a Conservation Area the information is not actually passed on to the residents who live in that area.

I myself have lived in this road some 14 years. It was not a Conservation Area then, and up to now I have had no written declaration from the council to this effect.

MRS J KNIGHT, Manby Road, Great Malvern.
