The new Millennium has been marked at St John he Baptist Church, Eldersfield, by unveiling a stained glass window in the north-west corner of the building.

The window, due to be dedicated at the 6.30pm service on Sunday (December 29), shows the Baptism of Christ by John the Baptist and the descent of the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove.

The vicar, the Rev. Dr Arthur Cunningham, said: "We wanted something with a link to the church, hence the subject, and also something that people could identify with the new Millennium, a symbol of hope."

The modern window, by Bristol glass artist Roy Coomber, only shows the hands of Christ, with the focus on the Holy Spirit.

It was paid for through a local fundraising drive and a grant of £1,900 from the parish council.
