PLANS to knock down a Victorian house in North Malvern and replace it with a block of 15 flats have been thrown out by district council planners.

Cheltenham Builders Ltd applied to demolish Scotland House, on the junction of Cowleigh Road, North Malvern Road and Trinity Bank.

The house, until recently a car dealership, has had many modern extensions added on to it to house showrooms and workshops. In 1999, planning permission was granted to convert it into 12 flats, retaining the Victorian house and losing the modern extensions.

Planning officers said the original building made a positive contribution to the character and appearance of the local Conservation Area and demolishing it would go against local conservation policies.
