PETER LUFF (Mid-Worcestershire)

Christmas is a time for giving - and for giving thanks.

It is right that, in Droitwich, we should be thankful for the promising developments over the last year - success in the fight against anti-social behaviour in the town, progress on a range of issues on Westlands and the resolution of some contentious issues, not the least of which is the future of the Worcestershire hotel.

The town still hasn't been given its biggest Christmas present, the re-opening of the Droitwich canals, but I am optimistic we will make further good progress on that front in the coming year.

So although, both internationally and nationally, we face an uncertain New Year, with the real prospect of war in the Middle East and with our public services, especially our local health service and our schools, under great strain, we should give thanks for all the good things that are happening in our community.

And we should all resolve to do what we can to help local good causes - like the Norbury theatre that does so much for the people of the town.

A very happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year to you all.

JULIE KIRKBRIDE (Bromsgrove)

Another year has flown by and I'd like to wish all my constituents a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Sadly, we have had another year scarred by international terrorism and we think of the families of the bereaved at this time.

We also look to the troubles of the Middle East and wonder what the New Year will bring. Our prayers are for service families separated from their loved ones for Christmas, while others wonder what action they might see in Iraq during the coming year.

Let's hope that in the New Year we can settle the problem of Iraq peacefully and make progress towards a peaceful solution for the Holy Land.

Meanwhile at home, we thank all those emergency services, the Fire Brigade, the Police and health workers - who remain busy while the rest of us have some fun.

I'm really looking forward to Christmas this year with my family. At two, my little boy knows that something exciting is going on and can't wait to get his hands on all those presents under the tree.

Santa has already arrived at our house! I hope he brings all my constituents what they desire too.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all.
