DEAR EDITOR - So Wychavon has approved the demolition of the dominant Worcester Brine Baths Hotel in Droitwich. Purchased in 1984, attempted refurbishing in 1985 with the new brine complex in the offing, why exempt from business status? I was under the impression that Cllr Alf Meikle chased up non-ratepayers.

What a wonderful investment for Impney Hotels who have allowed it to rot from choice. We are to have three more blocks of flats in Worcester Road, more houses in Hanbury and Kidderminster Roads and we are to lose the market hall and car park and to make do with odd spots.

What the planners have down for this once pleasant Spa town - St George's buildings and original baths used by local doctors for surgeries, old shops in the High Street replaced by new, the eyesore car park in St Andrews Street, the demolition of Victoria Square brine baths (how foolish) and Winter Gardens, and Salters Hall cinema. The balcony area could have been a cinema, theatre and conference centre, ground floor shops or library.

The destruction of the tree lined Ombersley Street divided by the 'Berlin Wall' and North and Westcroft streets to be replaced, not by a supermarket but by an industrial estate on this prime site in Friar Street. the Georgian Norbury House and half-timbered Chorley House demolished.

I thought planners looked ahead, but they have ruined old Droitwich Spa.

Highfield Hospital with its modern wing and brine pool demolished. More houses - it would have provided doctors and dentists surgeries and brine pool. Pershore is fortunate they have a new £4m baths complex, Wychavon could not afford the same for Droitwich Spa. We must depend on the private sector for our complex.

If Wychavon want more houses built - give us a rest - transfer them to Pershore and Evesham.

F Greaves,

York Avenue,

Droitwich Spa.
