IT'S rather like visiting an old friend to see a production of this wonderful Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, and the KODS' latest version does not disappoint.
There were good performances by the always reliable Claire Hadland as Aunt Nettie, John Hutton as Mr Snow, and Chris Paine as Jigger.
Hannah McCormack also played a fine Julie, I particularly enjoyed her rendition of What's the use of Wond'rin'.
The society have a great find in Callum McArthur, who played Billy Bigelow. He is a good actor, with spot-on timing and I look forward to seeing him in future productions.
He has a good singing voice too, but unfortunately, rarely sang in key the night I went. This may have been down to first-night nerves, but, if not, he needs to work on that aspect of his talent as it did mar an otherwise superb performance.
Among all these pleasing performances, one stood out - Jill Parmenter as Carrie Pipperage, whose singing was better than ever, and she is so good at comedy.
Carousel runs until Saturday - don't miss it. VJS
