THE Worcester branch of the charity Age Concern has launched a new health insurance plan for older people.

Age Concern Herefordshire and Worcestershire's "health cash plan" is tailored to meet the needs of the over 50s.

Premiums are kept low by discarding unnecessary benefits and there is no upper age limit.

The plan is designed to help older people meet the costs of maintaining their health and improve their quality of life by paying back up to half of all expenses covered.

Things that can be covered include up to half the cost of new glasses, help with payment for private chiropody treatment, up to 50 per cent off charges incurred for dental treatment and money back when you are admitted to hospital for longer than a week.

Helpline

There is also a free GP helpline, open 24 hours a day, and much more, according to the package you select.

"Retired people can at least afford the cost of care, but are most likely to need medical help," said Lynne Matthews, insurance officer for Age Concern Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

"We felt it was essential to offer this new service so older people could seek the medical attention they needed without worrying over charges," she added.

If you would like more information about this health plan for older people contact Mrs Matthews at the local Age Concern office at 6 Sansome Street, Worcester, or by telephone on 01905 726652.
