AFTER a successful festive period St Richard's Hospice, Worcester, is looking ahead to the New Year's crucial fund-raising events.

The 18 patients were treated to staff pantomimes and carol singing in December, during which the Light for Love appeal raised more than £9,000.

"We had great fun in the run-up to Christmas," director of fund-raising Marilyn Peachey said.

Hundreds of people and their families, from throughout Worcestershire, are helped each year by the hospice's work in the community, and the generosity of the public is vital for its continued success.

"We are really grateful for any help and we are constantly looking for funds to maintain the hospice," said Mrs Peachey.

"We are also always keen for new volunteers to come forward."

Mrs Peachey is hoping that any London Marathon runners from the two counties will represent St Richard's Hospice.

"We are trying to draw in the community and support from anyone who is running in the event would be gratefully received," she said.

"There is also a walk in the spring and we are always trying to think of new fund-raising schemes."
