THE Little Mermaid is the highlight of Warwick Playbox Theatre's new season.

Hans Andersen's classic tale, which has been popularised by the Disney cartoon, will be premiered at the theatre in May, with performances throughout May and June.

The production has been developed in the same way as the Playbox's 1996 creation of The Red Shoes, which played in repertoire for two years before touring the USA and Europe.

Demand for tickets to see the new production, which combines theatre, movement, aerial artistry, acrobatics and a stunning design concept, is expected to be high and booking opens this month.

Other highpoints of the season include Beowulf- Dragon Slayer, which opens on January 23, 'Tis Pity She's a Whore, which opens February 11, Twelfth Night and A Midsummer Night's Dream in repertoire in March, a Good Friday performance of Victoria Requiem, the groundbreaking musical Cabaret in June, Sophocles' Oedipus Rex in July and a return for Ted Hughes' Beauty and the Beast in July.

Tickets and further information are available from the theatre on 01926 419555.
