SWIMMING: Aimee Cook, Chris Wildgust, Amy Smith and Jonathon Baylie were handed the chief coach accolades at Wyre Forest Swimming Club's annual awards ceremony.

The awards, made at Harriers Sports and Social Club, are given to swimmers who have made outstanding contributions to the club over the year.

Club championship prizes went to swimmers achieving top five positions within their age groups plus the fastest swimmers in each event.

Smith won all her events in the 15 to 16 year age group as well as the Bob Chapman age group cup and 10 trophies for fastest swimmer in an event.

The Colin Hill Trophy went to Liam Garbett, nine, who also triumphed in all his age group events as did 10-year-old Penguin Cup winner Robert Smith.

There was an outstanding effort from Claire Cashmore who was placed fifth in her age group, while winning three golds and three silvers at the National Disability Championships.

Cashmore broke the world record for 50m backstroke in her S9 group and has a place in the UK world potential squad for next year.

The club finished as the leading Worcestershire club in the Mercian Summer League and Worcester Winter League.

And for the first time in their history they won the Worcester County Relay competition.

Chief coach Godfrey Short said the most successful year in the club's history was crowned when the A team were promoted to the top Midland Speedo League division.

Short was presented with the Husum Shield, awarded for voluntary help during the year.
