CYCLING: Wyre Forest Cycle Racing Club member Phil Blacker is lying in seventh place overall in the West Midlands Cyclo-Cross League after nine rounds of the 12-round event.
Blacker, riding in the seniors section, has come up against former British champion Steve Knight and ex-tour rider Adrian Timmis.
In the youth section, Liam Preece, 15, is in second place overall on his father's mountain bike, despite missing the first two rounds.
Preece is in his first season at cyclo cross and is using the event as part of his winter training programme.
He has recorded one win and two second places so far.
His next race will be on Saturday, January 11, at Sutton Park, Birmingham, in the National Championships.
