WITH reference to Pete Wells' letter about Broadwaters Park (Shuttle/Times & News Letters, December 12), and the state of the parkland in general I, and many of the residents of Broadwaters, feel that the area is badly in need of some improvements.

Good news Mr Wells -- a very dedicated group of people, plus Wyre Forest District Council, obtained a grant from English Heritage, to rejuvenate Broadwaters Mill and surroundings.

The mill house itself is being completely restored, local schoolchildren are at the moment preparing paintings and murals depicting the mill as they see it. These are to be fastened inside.

Dusk-till-dawn lights will operate inside and outside, as well as illuminating the footbridges over the stream itself.

New lights are to be erected along the footpath to the mill, along with new seating inside and outside, plus extra waste bins.

A tree sculpture is being crafted in the early spring, with some help from local schoolchildren.

A new waterwheel sculpture attached to the mill will enhance the historic atmosphere of the area.

We have a definite commitment from all four agencies involved to maintain the stream in the future to an acceptable level.

The whole process is being videotaped for future viewing, and a complete history of the area should be available in 2003.

When completed Broadwaters Mill, park and walks will appear in English Heritage handbooks for Worcestershire.

All of this has come about by the desire, ideas, dedication and sheer hard work of people and children of the area.

In future we all hope that Broadwaters Park and mill will be a place to look upon with pride, and held in high regard by all the residents of Broadwaters.
