A CONTROVERSIAL late winner effectively ended Chaddesley Corbett's West Midlands League Division One South title dreams at current leaders Hinton.

The 2-1 result now leaves the league a two-horse race between Bewdley Town and Hinton.

However, Chaddesley were bottom of the league just 12 months ago and it was only Russ Semple's 89th-minute strike after seemingly bundling over Alex Kilgour that decided Saturday's contest.

The villagers started brightly and on eight minutes Richard Burton's fierce cross was met sweetly by Craig Pratt only for the post to intervene.

And Hinton wrestled the initiative in the 15th minute after Chaddesley failed to clear on three occasions from a corner and they were punished with a goal from eight yards.

The home side kept up the pressure with Semple causing Kilgour, Matt Baynton and Drew Armstrong problems.

Only three superb one-on-one saves by 16-year-old keeper and man-of-the-match Steve Parker kept Chaddesley in the game.

Davies, later replaced with Richard Ash in a tactical switch, supplied a fine cross for Ian Vogel to head over on 35 minutes.

Chaddesley were more fluent in the second half and their reward was an excellent equaliser on the hour.

Neil Lucas cut inside his player on the right wing and crossed for Pratt to smash home from 12 yards.

Both sides had further chances with a Vogel header cleared off the line and Baynton's free-kick tipped over by Dave Spencer.

Hinton missed two chances from close range and were denied by two outstanding Parker stops.

But with one minute left a hopeful long ball saw Semple and Kilgour clash before the striker gave Parker no chance from 10 yards.

Chaddesley's players are asked to meet at Brintons at 12.45pm for Saturday's cup game with Fernhill Heath County Sports.
