I REFER to articles in the December 12 issue of the Shuttle/Times and News concerning the impending review of education in Wyre Forest and would like to clarify the point I was making.

I believe the review must consider the structure of education for at least 25 years.

In this context, the current success or otherwise of individual schools should not be a determining factor, as no-one can predict which schools will be most successful in 10, 15 or 20 years time.

The fact that some have fallen foul of Ofsted while others have enjoyed success is, I believe, a short-term issue. Schools can, and do, improve rapidly.

It will clearly be difficult, when it comes to school closure, to propose closing schools that are demonstrably successful and popular. Whatever system is adopted, this may be the case.

We must expect, should this situation arise, the governors, staff, parents and pupils to fight for their own school, whether it has Ofsted's seal of approval or not.

I am suggesting that the review should focus on strategic issues rather than on judgements about currently perceived quality.
