RAIN has fallen almost continuously over the Christmas period plunging the Vale under water once again.

A series of flood alerts from the Environment Agency has gone out, with more rain on the way according to county weatherman Paul Damari.

Fields in low-lying areas are flooded and staff at Evesham's hotels along Waterside were on the alert yesterday as water started to creep near their boundaries.

Firefighters were called to Claybrook Farm in Badsey, but they could only offer advice as water poured off the fields into a house.

Sub-officer Julian Jenkins said: "There was no danger to life or property but we told the occupants to turn the electricity off, which is the biggest danger."

The landlord at the Crown Hotel, Chris Arnold, said: "We are watching the water levels because they have risen considerably, but we are not too worried at the moment."

The position at a nearby caravan park was even more serious.

The acting manager at Weir Meadow caravan park nearby, John Guest, said: "I am a bit worried because water is already underneath some caravans, but floats are in place so hopefully they will be alright."

Although the rain may abate, it's set to pour again on Sunday.

Temperatures, however, are set to plummet tonight prompting a chillier weekend.

Paul Damari, of Worcester's Weather Communications, said: "The outlook for the weekend is cold and frosty and we could see more rain on Sunday."

Environment Agency spokesman Lyn Fraley confirmed the river levels at Evesham were 1.8m above normal winter levels and still rising.

West Mercia police spokesman Vicky Davies said: "Although no roads have been officially closed many have been reported to be under several feet of water with flash flooding from fields being the most likely cause.

"Where drivers encountered flooded roads they should not try and drive through but seek an alternative route."
