REDDITCH United could be pushed further down the non league pecking order if ambitious plans to extend the Nationwide Conference are approved by the FA later in the month.
Conference bosses, frustrated by a lack of action by the FA in streamlining the non-league game have put forward their own blueprint.
The 69 clubs in the top divisions of the Dr Martens, Unibond and Ryman leagues have been asked to consider joining an expanded Conference.
And the Conference has asked permission to expand membership from 22 to up to 66 clubs.
If at least 22 clubs express an interest, a Conference Two would be formed and if 44 clubs are in favour there would be Conference North and South divisions feeding into the Nationwide Conference.
Conference chiefs want the new set-up operating next season but the idea needs FA approval.
