EVESHAM Soccer Academy's entry in the West Midlands Five-a-Side tournament saw them drawn in a league with Cannock, St Johns, Kidderminster and Newcastle.

Evesham won 1-0, 3-2, 4-2 with a creditable draw 4-4 with the eventual league winners on goal difference, to reach the quarter-finals where they met Wolverhampton.

It was a closely-fought contest with Wolverhampton scoring a goal in each half to win 2-0. Evesham hit the bar and post and the goalkeeper made two good saves.

The Academy's season started with the English Schools Competition which is contested by Worcester Sixth Form College, Kidderminster College and Pershore College and decided on a league format.

Evesham played at Worcester and made a poor start by conceding a goal after just two minutes. They responded well and got themselves back into the game with good efforts from Joe Tustain and Sam Thomas saved by the Worcester keeper.

Worcester then got a second but, just before the half-time break, Evesham were gifted a goal.

Evesham levelled five minutes after the break and then capitalised on Worcester's attacking efforts to score again.

However, a free header late on saw Worcester level at 3-3 and Evesham faced a decider against Pershore. They made a bright start creating an opportunity straight from the kick-off only to be denied by the linesman's flag.

It was 15 minutes into the game when a lofted ball into the Pershore box was missed by everyone, but it hit the bar. The best chance of the half came Pershore's way but centre back James Poole hacked clear from near the line.

The second half was mainly dominated by Evesham who eventually got a goal from a wicked deflection.

Pershore seemed to spring to life, applying constant pressure with a few good efforts on goal. Eventually they got their reward with a late leveller.
