THE planning department serving Droitwich Spa has shaken off its poor reputation and proved to be ahead of the rest.
The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister has published new performance statistics for England.
Wychavon District Council, which covers people living in Droitwich and other parts of the area, is again the most improved planning authority on the list.
Wychavon has shown a 43 per cent increase on performance in dealing with planning applications over the last two years.
The authority's planning chief, Jack Hegarty, said: "Two years ago the council was dubbed a 'failing authority".
"Now we are at the top of the Government's list."
The authority's development control and licensing committee chairman, Councillor Jean Dowty (Con - Ombersley) said: "I am really pleased that the hard work of members and officers has been recognised and I want to ensure that our services continue to improve over the next year."
