THE dedicated restoration of a prominent and historic building has been commended.
Staryard, in High Street, Droitwich Spa, has won a distinction in building award from Wychavon District Council. The awards recognise high standards of design and craftsmanship.
Andrew Brooker-Carey relocated his period furniture business from Birmingham and spent 12 months restoring the Merchant House, which was built in the 1550s. The new plaque has pride of place in his shop window and Andrew said he is deeply honoured to have been chosen.
"I'm very pleased that I chose to move to Droitwich," said Andrew.
"It's a wonderful town that has charming people."
A total of ten different building projects were nominated and a panel of assessors, including council officers, councillors and a historian, visited each one.
