YOU shall go to the ball.

That's the message from a Bromgrove foster care group which has thrown a lifeline to the Spa's struggling Norbury Theatre in a bid to secure the future of community panto productions.

The Friar Street venue is set to echo to the sounds of hissing, booing and shouts when the cast of Cinderella take to the stage this month.

The viability of the theatre balances on the success of the show and Foster Care Associates (FCA) has now stumped up £750 to cover the costs.

FCA bosses, who are based in Stoke Prior, want to support the Norbury, which faces an uncertain future following rising bills and dwindling audiences.

A company spokeswoman said: "Many families enjoy a seasonal trip to the theatre but it can also be a time of sadness and despair for some young people. FCA witness this pain and hardship and recognise the importance of keeping happy family traditions alive."

The Norbury Theatre is run by volunteers, who not only produce the town's annual panto but also provide entertainment throughout the year. And they offer an outlet for scores of children to learn all the disciplines of theatre, whether on the stage or behind the scenes.

Norbury secretary Jonathan Yeldham said the cash injection was great news and an excellent vote of confidence in the venue.

"This will not only support the panto but future productions," he said. "Now we need residents to show their support by buying tickets. This year, Cinderella features all the favourite characters - Cinders, Buttons, Prince Charming, Dandini and of course the Ugly Sisters. FCA aims to send all of its foster children to a pantomime, which proves a new experience for many of them.

It cares for and supports youngsters who cannot live with their own parents because of neglect, abuse, abandonment or removal from home by social services.
