THREE flood warnings are still in force in Worcestershire, but with dry weather forecast for the next few days, it is hoped the worst is now over.

The warnings are on the River Severn from Bevere to Powick, from Worcester to Tewkesbury and from Monkmoor to Buildwas.

"There was some rain overnight but it didn't really have much of an effect," said a spokeswoman for the Environment Agency.

"There is also going to be more rain today but again we do not think it is going to cause any problems.

"The forecast going forward is quite dry and cold, so we are hoping that will improve the situation," she said.

"The river levels peaked yesterday, and in some places in the early hours of this morning.

"But they have now begun to drop back very slightly. We will continue to monitor the situation," she added.

Police in South Worcestershire have issued a warning to motorists to take extra care during the bad weather because of the amount of water on the roads.

Although no roads have been closed due to flooding, several have been reported to be under several feet of water.

Flash flooding from fields is considered to be the most likely cause for road flooding at the moment and the police are asking drivers to take particular care in rural areas.

"Where drivers encounter flooded roads, they should not try and drive through but seek an alternative route," a police spokesman said.

"It will not always be possible to know how deep flood water is and by entering it you could get stranded."

Drivers are also being encouraged to listen to local radio stations for travel updates.
