A FIVE-week coaching camp has been organised by Malvern Hockey Club, in partnership with Malvern Hills District Council, as part of the national sports development programme, Active Sports.
The hockey camp is targeted at boys and girls in Years 7, 8 and 9 (ages 11-14), and is designed to improve their skills and confidence, while at the same time introduce them to a club environment. The camp will run from 12.30-2pm every Saturday for five weeks starting on January 11 and running to February 8. The cost of the entire five weeks coaching is just £5. Hockey sticks can be provided at the astro turf for those who don't have one. Participants are asked to wear suitable clothing including shin pads.
Malvern Hockey Club have a men's team, women's team and a junior section.
Currently the club has 125 members, including 45 men, 20 women and 60 juniors. Juniors train once a week at the Chase School astro turf pitch, and are tutored by a number of qualified coaches.
The club has been working closely with MHDC's Sport and Recreation department towards Sport England's club accreditation scheme, Club Mark.
