BRITISH Camp car park bustled with walkers over the weekend, despite reports from the Malvern Hills Conservators that attendance was down on last year's festive period.

According to the Conservators, who manage the town's famous landmark, the overall figures for 2002 are similar to those of 2001, but poor weather during December seem to have put festive visitors off.

"It was a good bit quieter over the holiday period to usual," said Conservators spokesman Val Whittaker.

Mrs Whittaker said overall numbers of visitors for the year were 20 percent up on 2001, but work out similar when the effects of foot and mouth disease are taken into account.

"If you level it out over the whole year it will be about the same. Last year we had bright and frosty days but this time it was just dull," she said.
